How to spruce up your house for Spring

The mere mention of Spring means that winter is coming to an end - although the weather doesn't appear to follow suit!!  We've got some tips to help you give your home a new look without breaking the bank.

1. Clear Out

Stick to the 6 month rule - if you / your family haven't used, worn or played with it in the last 6 months, then get rid of it.  Take them to the recycling centre or a charity shop.  It's amazing how much lighter you'll feel when you see all the unnecessary stuff you were hoarding!

  2. Add Plants

Plants are a natural way to re-energise your home, as well as purifying the air.  Why not start your own herb garden - a small one in the kitchen can create lovely smells - or a            larger plot outside will allow you to add vegetables too!

  3. Paint
Freshening up your paint work can make a huge difference to a room.  If you're feeling daring, add a splash of colour to give it a more dramatic effect, but if not, even changing          the cushions and adding a rug can transform the look.

4. Wallpaper
If you don't have the time to paint - why not introduce new colours and textures by using wallpaper.  If you're opting for a bold statement, go for a statement wall, otherwise it could make the room feel smaller.  Remember if you're thinking about selling your house, don't make it too big a statement!

5. Hooks
Putting up hooks are an easy way to reduce clutter.  For example - coat hooks mean that coats aren't draped over chairs or the newell post, in the kitchen hooks are ideal for keys and utensils, and are an easy way to store jewellery in your bedroom.

6. Mirrors

Introducing a mirror into your room can not only make it feel bigger, but also with the light reflecting off it, make it feel naturally brighter too.

7. Hanging Around

If you don't want the effort of redecorating, why not update your room by hanging pictures - you could go all out and make a feature wall, or more minimal with just a few - either way, it will bring some of your personality into your room.  Another option is to hang shelves - allowing you to display photos, your childs artwork, candles etc.

8. Mix it up
Something as simple as rearranging the furniture can give your home new lease of life - by bringing it together to make it more cosy, or opening it up to feel more spacious.  A word of warning - moving furniture always means you'll find areas that have been overlooked when cleaning!!
